This unit will send readers on a journey akin to one that characters go on in books. We will study characters deeply. First observing, then developing hunches, and then investigating patterns that reveal deeper character traits. Writing: In our new unit Once Upon a Time students will adapt fairy tales as we learn about story arcs, archetypes and morals as we explore the standards for narrative writing. Math: We will continue module 5 on fractions! Science: We continue our investigation of weather. Social Studies: We will start economics! On the 14th please bring a decorated bag or shoe box and a Valentine for every student in Grade Three. We will celebrate with games and treats! We will be doing a free-dress day fundraiser for the 7th grade Europe trip. Students and teachers will be able to have free-dress as long as they wear red white or pink and give a minimum donation of $1.00 to support the girls. Mrs. Sweeny will have a donation box at drop off in the morning so students can put their donation in as soon as they get out of the car. Hear is a list of students: Jayse Tyler Austin Leah Natalia Elleanna LRey Daniel (A new student that will arrive Wednesday) Disney's California Adventure Field Study The 3rd-5th grade teachers are very excited to announce our upcoming field study to Disney's California Adventure Park on Monday, March 12!! Disney offers a "Youth Education Series" that explores the Golden State--California. Seeing how your student is studying various aspects of California and westward expansion, we thought this would be a fun educationally-based trip to take. You can take a look at the program overview by searching disneyyouth.com. The program closely aligns with many California learning standards, which are listed on the website. This requires your quick attention. Please click the link for all the details. Attention Parents! Here's an easy way to make some quick cash: We have begun our word of mouth campaign and our referral program. $500 off tuition for each paying child they bring to the school. We have begun a new Math unit. We are relating two-dimensional shapes to their understanding of multiplication. They will make models of figures to explore area, and how it relates to the side lengths of a rectangle. In Reading, students will continue to read closely to catch key details and develop hunches, suspicions and predictions in this foundational skills unit: Mysteries. They will become more skilled at gathering information from text by rereading and annotating; transferring what they learn to other types of fiction. In Writing, we will develop persuasive speeches and editorials in our unit: Saving the World. We will get others to act on causes and may create speeches, petitions, editorialize, and collaborate together on projects. Please give a warm owl welcome to our new student Leah!
