Important Dates:
Minimum Day October 6 MAP Testing Begins Friday, September 13 Parent Teacher Conference October 20 Dia de los Muertos 2017 Fall Festival Saturday, October 21st 2:00 -8:00 P.M. MAP Testing: The best way to help your student prepare for MAP testing is a healthy breakfast and plenty of sleep the night before. Math Workshop: We are starting a new module in measurement. See the Math page for more detailed information and for tips on how to support your child’s learning at home. Reading Workshop: Students have become comfortable in their reading lives. Now we begin the deeper mind work and thinking that make reading so special and enjoyable. Students are focusing their efforts on asking themselves questions as they read, like who is in the story, and what is happening? Students are deciding whether the text is prompting them to make a movie in their mind, or if they should be making a mental list of important information. Writing Workshop: We are preparing for our next unit: The Art of Information Writing, youngsters write chapter books that synthesize a wide variety of information and learn to section their topics into subtopics. They are supported in this challenging work because they are writing about topics on which they have firsthand, personal knowledge: dogs, soccer, gymnastics. Students shared their published personal narratives with Grade 2. What an amazing group of writers! |
