Dear Parent, It is a privilege to work with such talented and eager students. I am very excited about the school year. This week in writing we are working on stamina for writing. We have just begun our Unit: Crafting True Stories. We are getting familiar with our writing notebooks and the writer’s workshop. We have created many strategies for finding “True Stories” and have already begun to write wonderful narratives. I think this is an exceptional group! In reading we are off to a quick start. We have learned how to choose a “Just Right Book” and strategies for how we can make reading the best it can be. I have been busy assessing students and teaching the children how we can build powerful reading lives. You can help the children best by checking to see that they are reading a minimum of 20 minutes an evening and filling out the reading logs nightly. The same books should be coming back and forth between home and school until finished. The best way to ensure that your student is reading a 'just right book' is to make sure it came from classroom's leveled library. In math we are learning to multiply & the meaning of factors as well as division as an unknown factor problems. Please see our math page to download tips on our math unit!
